Physical Activity

Physical activity is a process where you move the body to work the muscles of your body. These movements require more energy than what you would need when you are resting. Typically, people look at physical activity as running, walking and swimming. But gardening and even housekeeping for long periods of time would also be a form of physical activity.

So who is physical activity important to? It’s important to anyone who would like to look and feel better. It’s important for your physical health and to remain vibrant and active. The best way to care for your body is to do at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day.

Physical Activity for the Competitive Swimmer

Competitive college swimmers are a group who should also care about physical activity. This activity helps to grow and develop the muscles of the body. This allows us to build the muscles that are essential for helping up to swim in the water. With it, we can produce more energy and our improved muscle mass does help us to glide through the water faster. Thanks to the increase in endurance that also comes from physical activity, we are able to go longer distances and accomplish more.

With competitive swimming, we also ensure we get the blood flowing and the heart pumping. Our time in the water continuously works our muscle sand this helps us to lose weight, tone up and to feel better. When you exercise for long periods of time we can help to prevent some types of cancer, type 2 diabetes and even heart disease.

Of course, since swimming is relaxing, it can also help to combat your stress levels too. This can help you to unload the worries and concerns of the day and enjoy the feeling the feeling of euphoria that we get from working out. But this isn’t where the list of benefits ends.

Fountain of Youth

Physical activity also helps us to remain independent longer in life. As we age, we begin to lose the ability to do many things we once could. When you continue physical activity into your later years, you can prolong your independence and work on preserving muscle mass. As the body ages, it often becomes difficult for people to build up their mass and to improve their health. Thanks to things like swimming, that muscle mass and overall health and general well being can be maintained.

As you can see there are plenty of reasons to choose physical activity. You want to protect your health and that is possible when you routinely follow through with things like swimming, hiking, walking and other activities. Best of all, as you reduce your risk of a stroke or heart attack, you are also improving how you look and feel. Before you know it, you’ll be doing all the things you never imagined you could do. Like running a marathon or even take part in an open water competition and swimming with the pros from around the world.
